Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is the Arizona Hockey Union?

The Arizona Hockey Union is the affiliation of all the travel associations that call the Arizona Polar Ice facilities home. Those include the Phoenix Polar Bears Junior A, Phoenix Polar Bears, Peoria Roadrunners, Arizona Heat*, and the new Arizona Hockey Union Polar Bears Tier Teams* (*New for 2008)

  • What will the combined Union Tier teams be called and where will they practice?

The Union teams will wear the colors of the Junior A team and will be referred to as the Union teams. They will practice at the facilities that match up with the make up of the team. That could mean a rotating schedule.

  • Who is the Arizona Heat

  • Will the Heat have Tier teams?

The goal of the Heat and the facility in Gilbert is to develop new players and bring new players into the Polar fold. Teams will be formed based on the players that show interest. Tryouts for the heat will be held sometime in June.

  • I was wondering if someone wanted to sponsor someone or the team, how does that work? Is it tax deductible? What are the criteria's?

    Association Fundraising
Association fundraising includes all monies designated for the Sub-Associations general fund. The sources of these funds include donations, Sub-Association sponsorships and Association fundraising events such as the annual golf tournament. Other funds come to the Association from picture day revenues, sale of merchandise, and 10% of team fundraising revenue. These types of donations are tax deductible.

    Team Fundraising
Team fundraising includes all monies designated by the donor for a specific team. Team sponsorships are offered at several levels. This type of fundraising generally takes the form of outright cash donations, but can also involve donations of equipment and apparel, for example. The Association general fund receives 10% of all revenue from team fundraising. These types of donations are tax deductible.

    Player Fundraising
Player fundraising includes all monies designated by the donor for a specific player. This type of fundraising takes the form of outright cash donations, and is not tax-deductible for the donor. The Association general fund does not receive any portion of individual player fundraising. For more information on Player Contributions please see IRS Document - Page 6
