ALEXANDER SHUPE

Alexander began playing hockey in the fall of 2000 when he played for the Polar Ice Raven Mini-Mite team.  Chuck Shott was the Head Coach, and he was 4 years old.  After several years in the Polar Ice Chandler house program, Alexander was asked to play on a Mite B select team that the rink put together.  That team was led  by Head Coach Marty Gilan, and was assisted by Greg Petrowski.  The travel player was born that season when the team traveled many weekends to play in Flagstaff, Tucson, and Anaheim.   The next 2 Squirt years proved transitional for Alexander as he decided to switch positions and be a goal tender.  He played for Jason Thibeault and Mindy French, and was the winning goalie in the Sonoran League during his 2nd year.  Deciding he preferred scoring goals, instead of preventing them Alexander became a forward for his 2 Peewee seasons playing for Bob Schottke and Brian Cunningham and he continues as a forward today.

Alexander was privileged enough to play last season as a second-year Bantam A for former NHL-player Sean Hill, whom he believes provided the biggest impact to the player he is today.  Coach Hill awarded Alexander the coveted "Coach" award in 2010, which is earned by players exhibiting exemplary behavior both on and off the ice.  Alexander is a first year midget and is lucky to be playing for Dillon Shaffer and Jeff Alexander on the Union U16 team.  Alexander aspires to play college hockey for the University of Notre Dame, while earning an undergraduate degree.
