The AHU U14 White team finished the season in style by sweeping their playoff tournament and raising a  Mesquite Division championship banner. The Knights beat Flagstaff in pool play 3-0, the Titans 13-1, and Mission 7-2 and defeated the Flagstaff Northstars in the final game by the score of 5-0.

After a scoreless first period,  Knights forward Chase O’Hern scored a short-handed breakaway goal. From that point on, the momentum favored the Knights for the rest of the game. O’Hern scored another breakaway later in the second period to give the Knights a 2-0 edge.   In the third period, the Knights got three goals from second-year bantams. The first came from team captain and defenseman Ben Bunde on the powerplay. And later on to close out the third period forwards Nash Taylor and Gavin Green found the back of the net. Overall, the Knights outshot the Northstars 26-11.

“It felt great to end such a fun season on a high note.” Knights Head Coach Matt Esaena said. “That first goal by O’Hern was huge for us, totally changed the games momentum. And our second-year players got to work and finished it out for us. The whole team worked so hard all season. Every player, coach, manager, and parent was rewarded with this championship banner, and I can’t thank them enough.”

Overall, Coach Eseana’s squad finished 36-19-5 in league play and tournament games. That included a 10-3-1 record.
